“The Pirate. Ornery and insulting owner of The Hound.”
Ben Chambers is the owner and proprietor of The Hound, a gentleman's shop in St. Crispian’s. He is a friend of Niall Pierce and is known for his rude personality and pirate-like appearance.
Chambers has skills in carpentry and book-binding. He is very particular about his work, and takes great offense when anyone disrespects it. Despite this, he has a kind heart and looks out for those around him.
Appearance & Personality[edit | edit source]
Ben Chambers has an gruff appearance to match his personality. He has an eyepatch on one eye, and his left leg has been replaced by a peg leading some to call him a pirate. He is a strong man with a medium build and rude disposition. [1][2][3]
Despite Emma calling him, "possibly the rudest I’ve ever met"[3] Chambers is a loyal friend[4][5] and is known to show bouts of kindness.[6] He cares deeply about his work and isn't afraid to call someone out.[7]
Life Sketch[edit | edit source]
Not much is known about Ben Chambers early life. He did not grow up in St. Crispian’s, but his uncle owned The Hound, then a general mercantile shop, and Chambers spend much of his time working for him there. Because of this He considers himself to have at least partially grown up in St. Crispian's, and is life-long friends with many residents, including Saffronia March.[5]
At some point Ben Chambers learned carpentry and book binding, lost his leg and eye, befriended Niall Pierce, and took over ownership of The Hound.[1][8]
Relationships[edit | edit source]
Niall Pierce[edit | edit source]
Niall Pierce is a very close friend of Chambers.[9] They have both saved each other more than once. [10][4]
Saffronia March[edit | edit source]
Saffronia March was a child of friend of Ben's. They both spend time in St. Crispian’s growing up. He calls her "Saff", and enjoy how direct she is.[5]
Emma[edit | edit source]
Emma and Chambers got off to a very rough start,[3] and Emma still doesn't completely know what to think of him[11]. Chambers doesn't make Emma feel welcome at The Hound[12], but he did find a (mostly complete) copy of Dr. Johnson’s Dictionary of the English Language for her[6][13] and bind Emma's journal for her in a custom binding.[7][10]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Chambers has looked after Tybalt when both Emma and Pierce were gone.
